I wish I found this book about 10 years ago! It might not be as insightful for me now, but I will recommend it to friends. And I love Jane Austen!

Thank you Susan - that is a gem "Honesty is not Rebellion." OMG - that needs to be one of my new taglines. I adore it!

I think observant Catholics need more safe places to be honest and discuss their struggles and observations without being torn down, judged, or shamed into a box. These things that people don't like to discuss are the very things that could ultimately end up silently fracturing someone's Catholic identity....until it's so fractured that they can't hide it anymore. You are right - it is not dissent - we're talking about real issues that devout Catholics deal with every day as they try to live out their faith.

Amy- BRAVO!!!!

And THANK YOU!!!

You are dead on when you say we need to examine things more honestly. I gave a speech to Legatus last year on the subject of all the "happy talk" in the Church when it comes to fertility issues. You know- all the talk of the beauty of large families and none but the most glancing recognition of its drawbacks, especially for the women who are trying to cope with it all day, every day. The audience loved it; the sole priest present, I think, did not. (He kept shaking his head.)

When will we all wake up and realize honesty is not rebellion?

Amy- I shared your first story via FB and received a couple of positive posts about it- one even from a friend who comes from a very active, pro-life family. Then a couple of weeks later a friend stopped me after Mass to thank me for sharing your blog on FB. His wife had suffered from similar health issues in her child-bearing years and they had struggled with whether or not certain decisions were in line with their faith. He said he would have commented as well, but felt a little out of place commenting on something so personal to women.

So please know that your story helped a few people and several of us here in Dallas are grateful to you for sharing it.

Thanks Bethany! Yes - it is important to talk about what's really going on with ourselves and our faith. Through my coaching, I've learned how impossible it is to really grow by leaps and bounds if we cannot process our emotions and express our truth.

There is definitely some room for differing opinions, even in orthodox Catholicism. I know lots of people who are "orthodox Catholics" who still have differing views on some things. It's not massively different, but it's different enough to make an impression. We're also in times of rapid change, so new situations are always arising to confuse us.

I think posting your original post was an amazing thing and very courageous of you. I realized recently that we need to discuss, dissect, talk about our faith and what is behind it in order to truly believe. Plus, we all don't NEED to have the same beliefs, just as long as we can respect each other and have the same goal in mind: salvation through God.

Again, thank you for writing about this. In this time of heated discussions about medical treatments and coverage, each perspective needs to be heard.

Darn it...I didn't intend to post yet!! I'm having mouse issues! lol

In response to Bethany's comment:

"...so I could make some wrongs into rights with God"

Making wrongs into rights and healing through Christ's forgiveness is the purpose of the Sacrament of Reconciliation or originally known as "Confession". And as noted above...There is not condemnation in Christ Jesus. You are loved and God knows your pain.

Trust Him...be still and know that He is God.

May God bless you as you persevere & unite your sufferings with Christ's on the Cross and offer them up to our Lord as a gift of sacrifice. My prayers will be with you.
